Alderman Roderick Sawyer

Alderman Roderick T. Sawyer was elected to represent the 6th Ward in April of 2011. Since his election he has worked tirelessly to improve the communities within the 6th ward and beyond.

He is the youngest of three children born to Celeste C. Taylor and the late Mayor of Chicago and former 6th Ward Alderman, the Honorable Eugene Sawyer.

Growing up on the south side of Chicago, Roderick’s parents ensured he understood the importance of helping others, maintaining a strong work ethic, and building solid neighborhoods.

That has been at the forefront of the work he does for the ward. As alderman, he has walked picket lines in support of those seeking a living wage, participated in countless town halls and forums, and offered free space to community organizations.

At the core, Alderman Sawyer believes that all politics is local and remains committed to defending the community that he has lived in his entire life. His strong focus on local development helped usher in ThriveZones and  more resources from the Neighborhood Investment Fund that helped revitalize the local business districts of his ward.

Alderman Sawyer is also a licensed stock broker and real estate broker. Roderick is married to Cheryll and they have two children, Sydni Celeste and Roderick T. Jr.
